The scent of paint greeted the exclusive round of guests, promising a joyful evening dedicated to the art of silk screen printing in Vienna’s WUK. The former locomotive factory, built in 1855 from countless bricks, situated right next to Vienna’s Volksoper offered the perfect setting for an evening full of handcraft.

Vienna is a city with a long tradition in handcrafts and it is the perfect place for a young artisan with a soft spot for old machines. Martin Novak roams backyards, old workshops or special flea markets on his constant search for high quality printing machines such as machines manufactured by Heidelberg. No wonder he chose the former locomotive factory WUK, right in the heart of Vienna, to host his event.

Around 60 guests accepted his invitation and enjoyed an evening under the banner of silk screen printing: Delicious treats made by the famous coffee house „Espresso“ were offered while guests got to know the artisan and his works. An exhibition highlighting the various forms of hand printing accompanied by a video produced by the artist and creative collective „Atzgerei“ took the guests on a journey deep into the essence of hand printing. As a highlight Martin Novak performed a live demonstration of his handcraft, introducing the technique and inviting guests to dive right into his handcraft and print their own personal print as a souvenir. Enthusiastic about the results and Martin’s craft, the guests enjoyed an multifaceted evening.
