Jennifer Trausch’s event 'Dream Home unfolded in the intimate lower stories of an 1880's Brooklyn Bed-Stuy brownstone, flavored by music, food, and drink from the neighborhood cherishing her craft in a very personal exhibition.
Trausch's 30 handcrafted instant 8x10 prints from Leica T images were woven through the space, floating against poured concrete and brick, resting quietly on old wooden shelves, illuminated like a beacon at the entrance, and nestled in corners of the yard. The B&W images follow Trausch's search for refuge from chaos - her home, a Vermont cabin, dreamed homes, quiet places.
The crowd of old and new friends, strangers, photographers and artists of every bent; neighbors, children, families, and construction crews, surged and flowed through the 5 hour event. They jumped for the 7-item, 3-course cuban meal including line-caught smoked bluefish from chef Ricardo Barreras; they blended with a delicious assortment of Sangria and whiskey cocktails by Joios; they grooved to music by Dan Jax who turned out something for everyone in the 'hood; and they zoned at the quiet oasis created by tea-master Johhny Fogg.
Up in the grand parlor, the master and her tools were arrayed to tell how these quiet, luminous images emerged from their digital origins. Computer parts, lenses and prototype boards, antiquated photo-electronic equipment, the detritus of instant print-making, somehow suggesting the triumphs and errors which made a sum greater than these parts. In the rear yard among radiant and mysterious light boxes hung beside summer vines, Kisha Bari helped guests make their own transparencies on an Instant Lab printer with Impossible Project film.
